| New! Exciting! No Other Camp Like It! Just Like the Cowboys did it over a hundred years ago but with a twist of survival!Sleeping under a star studded sky in a tent surrounded by beautiful oak timber and hay meadow perched high above the mighty Mississippi river with the smell of bacon sizzling on an open fire. Learning the art of cooking on an open fire and with dutch ovens, each camper will team up with other campers and take turns in cooking full meals. After breakfast other campers will clean cooking utensils and do mess detail. After everyone has pitched in and the group will began the study of horsemanship. Studies will include: Conformation, Colors and Markings, Safety, Fitting Tack, Boots and Bandages, Horse First Aid, Feet and Shoes, Mouths and Bits, Beds and Bedding, Cleaning Stalls and Horse back riding each day. This program offers qualified counselors and riding instructors.
Campers will enjoy the art of roping and using the lariat along with learning how the cowboys brand and mark their cattle and other livestock. Each camper will heat the branding irons to red hot over an open fire and then smell the real burning of hair and cow hide just like the old cowboys did. Each camper will keep their branded hide as a souvenir. Each camper will be given their own personal wrangler tin cup for memories in the years to come.
Other studies will include how to survive when all you have is the pack on your back. Each camper will be given the new survival handbook, "Surviving out of your Back Pack" and will be taught by the author David Skipworth (see Camp Director). This includes Collecting Essentials, How to survive when your food runs out, Tanning hides for clothes, Snares and Traps, and Shelter. Think about it, everything you need to survive in a easy-to-carry pack. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have this in you vehicle especially when you go on long trips or any where else for that matter. To survive means to be prepared at all times and having a survival pack handy for a quick bug-out bag or emergency is a plus. This is why campers will be bringing a back pack instead of a suitcase or other bags. Campers will also enjoy catching their own supper while fishing in our beautiful lake.
Youth Cowboy CampCowboy Camp is co-ed. There will be a male counselor assigned to the boys and a female counselor assigned to the girls. The girls bunks will be separated from the boys bunks, therefore having their own privacy. Cowboy Camp will be limited to no more than twelve campers. This will ensure that each camper will receive personal training. There will be at least one counselor to every six campers. Ages are from 10 to 17 years. Each Camper will be assigned a horse during the week that will fit their size and riding ability. If a camper returns to Cowboy Camp they may request the same horse they had before. Campers will learn to ride during the week.
Our riding program focuses on training riders for excellence, no matter what level or discipline they are at. All of our classes are taught inside an arena and safety of the horse and rider comes first.
Family members may reach campers by phone only in an emergency by calling 563-263-5840 and leave a message and a phone number at the office and personnel will come to the Cowboy Camp and notify camper. The camper will be then be able to leave camp and make the return call with their phone card. Cowboy Camp is located 1/4 mile from main barn and arena and approx. 10 minutes to the Muscatine Hospital. Forest Hill Farms number one priority is SAFETY. Note: One week to ten days prior to a given camp week, a decision will be made by the camp directors to run or cancel that week based on the number of individuals who have enrolled and paid. We reserve the right to cancel a camp week due to insufficient enrollment. All fees paid will be refunded. For more information click the following links: |
